"That's So Seuss!" Reading Challenge
Every year, the Day Program participates in the Reading Challenge to share our love of reading! This year, we will dive into the wonderful world of Dr. Seuss, which will start on March 1 and last until March 30.
Our school mascot, Bailey, will lead the way and dive into the Dr. Seusss collection with us! Bailey will travel to each classroom and read all these wonderful stories with us as the children continue to read (both at home and school)! Children from each class will also visit the other four classrooms throughout the month to listen to one of the many Dr. Seusss stories hand-picked by the classroom teachers! We will get together on March 31 to count and celebrate the books we read!
Day Program teachers will provide parents and children with reading logs (you will find them on the back of your child's Communication Book) to record the book titles they read at home. We need your help to sign off on books to read at home so they can count toward the reading challenge. Thank you for your help and participation!
Read With Me, Friends!
In the Day Program, we understand that young children may not be able to read independently. We also understand that some parents may not feel comfortable reading English stories to their children. Since this program aims to excite children and encourage the excellent habit of reading, Day Program teachers will count books read by adults to students in English and Chinese (or any other languages).
We encourage friends and relatives to participate by reading to our children in both languages. However, if a student can read in English, we expect them to read English stories to/with their family members. We hope that, as a school, we will read more than 4,000 books by the end of the month! Come back to this page to check our progress throughout the month!
